Thorns FC call up four amateur players for match against Washington Spirit

Nike Ball, USWNT vs. Canada

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC announced today that defenders Michelle Cruz and Carlie Davis, goalkeeper Cris Lewis and forward Hanna Terry have been added to the roster as amateur players for Sunday’s match against the Washington Spirit at Providence Park; kickoff is 2 p.m. (Pacific).

Classified as amateur players, the four additions will provide Thorns FC with roster depth on Sunday as Portland will be missing five players to international duty.

Cruz, 22, helped guide the University of Portland to the NCAA Tournament during each of her four seasons (2010-13). In that span, Cruz played in 76 games, recording nine goals and 11 assists. As a junior in 2012, Cruz started all 21 games for the Pilots and earned National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-West region honors as well as All-West Coast Conference (WCC) second-team accolades.

Davis, 23, started all 25 games during her senior season in 2012, helping Baylor to one of the best seasons in school history. A key defender for the Bears, Davis was part of a 2012 squad that set the school record for most wins (19), shutouts in a season (13), fewest goals allowed (14), shots allowed (173), assists allowed (9) and points allowed (37). Baylor reached the third round of the 2012 NCAA Tournament before falling in penalty kicks to eventual-champion North Carolina.

Lewis, 26, a former standout goalkeeper at Portland State University, claimed multiple program records for the Vikings. The Burien, Wash., native holds the program’s all-time career records in saves (375), shutouts (17) and wins (24) following a four-year career from 2006-09. Lewis, a four-time All-Big Sky Conference selection, was named the conference’s defensive MVP as a senior in 2009. She appeared in one match for Thorns FC as an amateur player in 2013 against Chicago.

Terry, 23, was a three-year starter at Northeastern University (2011-13) and helped lead the Huskies to a NCAA Tournament berth in 2013 as well as a Colonial Athletic Conference (CAA) title. She was named the Most Outstanding Player of the CAA Championships scoring two goals and tallying an assist. A two-time first-team All-CAA selection, Terry finished her career with seven goals and 14 assists, ranking her fourth all-time in assists.
