Timbers on Campus: Academy alum Anthony Macchione scores first career goal for Akron

Appearing primarily as a substitute for the University of Akron during his freshman campaign, former Timbers U-18 Academy team standout and Camas, Wash., native Anthony Macchione netted his first career goal for the Zips, helping the team to a 3-0 win over Michigan on Oct. 14. Macchione has appeared in all 13 games this season (1 start), while fellow Timbers Academy alum Jesse Garcia-Aguilar has also made 13 appearances (9 starts) and freshman defender Niko de Vera has seen time in one match (1 start).

The Zips have won three straight matches and moved into the No. 19 spot in the NCAA.com Men’s Soccer RPI poll this week.

Freshman goalkeeper Collin Partee continues to put up solid efforts each game for the nascent Utah Valley University men’s soccer squad this season. Partee came up with three saves, but the Wolverines lost a double-overtime heartbreaker against Seattle University on Oct. 18. Partee has appeared in 10 of the team’s 11 games, while earning a 4-4-1 record with two shutouts. The Camas, Wash., native ranks second in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) in goals-against average with a mark of 0.80.

Stanford freshman Foster Langsdorf recorded his sixth appearance of the season for the Cardinal, coming on as a substitute and forcing a big save in the 68th minute of a 1-1 draw against California-Berkeley on Oct. 20.

Helping Gonzaga start its West Coast Conference schedule off with a win, freshman defender Ben White got the start in defense and assisted in guiding the Bulldogs to a 2-1 road win against Santa Clara on Oct. 17. Just two days later, the Zags nearly got a second straight result on the road, but suffered a 2-1 loss in overtime against the University of San Francisco. White, a Tigard, Ore., native has appeared in 12 of the team’s 13 matches and ranks fourth on the squad in minutes played as a freshman (1,002).

Sophomore forward Spencer Kleweno recorded his second start of the season for Oregon State University in a 1-0 loss against San Diego State on Oct. 17.

At the NAIA and junior college level, forward Timur Zhividze scored for a third consecutive game in a 4-0 win over Northwest University on Oct. 18 to help Concordia gain control of first place in the Cascade Collegiate Conference. Zhividze was also named the CCC Men's Offensive Player of the Week and leads Concordia with seven goals and four assists.

Clark College forward Octavio Hermosillo scored his fifth goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Peninsula on Oct. 17. Clark occupies first place in the Eastern Division of the NWAAC Conference with 27 points, 11 points clear of second place Chemeketa.
