Thorns FC's Alex Morgan scores 50th international goal in 1-0 victory over England

Alex Morgan vs. England 2.13.15

Soon-to-be Thorns FC teammates in Portland squared off on Friday as the U.S. Women’s National Team and England met for the first time since 2011. Alex Morgan started for the United States, while Jodie Taylor was in the starting XI for England in a 1-0 win for the USWNT.

Morgan made her presence known in just her second match back with the United States since October as she opened the scoring with her 50th career goal in her 79th appearance, becoming the third-fastest player in USWNT history to reach 50 goals. In the 25th minute, Morgan drifted towards the penalty spot before heading home a cross from Lauren Holiday to put the United States in front, 1-0, which proved to be the match winner. She is now the 10th USWNT player to reach the milestone and is three goals out of ninth place on the all-time scoring list.

The newest member of Thorns FC, Taylor earned her fourth international cap on Friday. Taylor looked to have scored the equalizer in the 58th minute as she collected the loose ball after Fran Kirby's shot rattled the post, but was ruled offside on the play.

Next up, the United States will be at the Algarve Cup next month, while England heads to the Cyprus Cup in preparation for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in June.
