USL PDL RECAP | Portland Timbers U-23s 2, Washington Crossfire 0

U23s Goal Celebration vs. Puget Sound, 2014

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers U-23s received first-half goals from forwards Ben White and Anthony Macchione in a 2-0 shutout win against the Washington Crossfire on Saturday night at Delta Park in Portland, Ore. The win marked the Timbers U-23s second consecutive clean sheet and third shutout of the 2015 Premier Development League (PDL) season.

Facing Washington for the second time this season, the Timbers U-23s (3-1-2, 11pts) opened the scoring in the 26th minute as White converted a pass from defender Foster Langsdorf over the head of Crossfire goalkeeper Tyler Visten, giving Portland a 1-0 lead. White finished with a team-high two shots, while the Timbers U-23s registered six shots on goal in the match and extended their unbeaten streak to three straight games (1-0-2) with the win.

The Timbers U-23s finished their regular-season series against the Crossfire (1-2-2, 5pts) with consecutive victories, following a 3-2 win over Washington on May 19.

Macchione added a second goal for the Timbers U-23s, firing a shot inside the far right post off a pass from midfielder Todd Wharton to give Portland a two-goal lead in the 38th minute. Portland finished with a 13-8 advantage in shots, while holding Washington to just one shot on goal in the first half.

Washington came out aggressively in the second-half, delivering three shots on goal including a close opportunity off a corner kick, but Timbers U-23 goalkeeper Collin Partee punched the effort clear to keep the Crossfire off the board. Partee recorded four saves to help the Timbers U-23s register their third clean sheet in six matches this season. Washington midfielder Cam Rohani finished with a team-leading three shots.

Portland plays its third match of a four-game home stretch on Friday, June 19, against Puget Sound Gunners FC at Buckman Field in Portland; kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. (Pacific).
