World Cup Notebook | Jodie Taylor makes FIFA Women's World Cup debut

Jodie Taylor became the eighth Thorns FC player to appear in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup as England earned a 2-1 win against Colombia in the final group stage game for the Lionesses.


Taylor, who was named to her first FIFA Women's World Cup roster in May, made her World Cup debut in the 81st minute, making an immediate impact in the match. The Thorns FC forward and Oregon State alum was able to get behind the Colombia defense multiple times and was one-on-one with the Colombian goalkeeper in the 84th minute, but was taken down on the breakaway and the goalkeeper was shown a yellow card on the play.


England finishes second in the group and will square off against Norway in the Round of 16 on Monday, June 22, at 2 p.m. (Pacific) on Fox Sports 1. The Lionesses part of the bracket includes some familiar faces in Thorns FC teammates Christine Sinclair, Kaylyn Kyle and Rhian Wilkinson. The winner of England and Norway will face the winner of Canada and Switzerland in the quarterfinal round on Saturday, June 27.
