USL PDL RECAP: Kitsap Pumas 1, Portland Timbers U-23s 1

U23s Devon Fisher vs. Kitsap Pumas 5.29.15

BREMERTON, Wash. – The Portland Timbers U-23s rallied back from an early first-half deficit as defender Devon Fisher netted the game-tying goal in the 48th minute to earn a point on the road in a 1-1 draw with the Kitsap Pumas on Wednesday night at Gordon Field in Bremerton, Wash. The match marked the end of Portland’s 2015 Premier Development League (PDL) regular-season schedule.

Portland (6-2-4, 22pts), currently in second place in the Northwest Division, is guaranteed to finish as one of the top three teams in the division and has secured a berth in the Northwest Division playoffs against Seattle Sounders FC U-23 at a date, time and location yet to be determined.

The Timbers U-23s conceded a goal early in the first half against Kitsap (8-0-2, 26pts) as forward Logan Miller scored after receiving a long ball in the 10th minute to give the Pumas a 1-0 lead in the match. Miller’s goal marked his fifth in the last three games for Kitsap.

Portland tallied the equalizer early in the second half as Fisher finished into a wide-open net after forward Ismaila Jome played the ball across the goal past Kitsap goalkeeper Matt Grosey in the 48th minute to level the score.

With the draw, the Timbers U-23s finished their regular-season series against division-leading Kitsap with an 0-1-1 record, as the Pumas previously earned a 2-0 win over Portland on May 29 at Providence Park.

The Timbers U-23s outshot Kitsap, 4-3, and finished with a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Looking for the go-ahead goal, Portland saw a chance in the second half from forward Anthony Macchione on a breakaway in the 60th minute, but he sent the ball just wide of the goal.

Portland was forced to finish the match with 10 players after defender Dennis Castillo was issued a red card in the 78th minute.
