Quick Strikes by Simple | Portland Timbers vs. San Jose Earthquakes | Aug. 2, 2015

Quick Strikes, Timbers @ SJ, 8.2.15

The Portland Timbers will get their first look at the new Avaya Stadium Sunday as the club travels south to take on the San Jose Earthquakes (2pm PT, ESPN2). Here are five numbers to know for #SJEvPOR in the latest Quick Strikes by Simple.

44 Forward Lucas Melano earned a penalty kick during his debut for the Timbers in last week's match at FC Dallas. Melano is the 44th different MLS player to earn a spot-kick this season, but the Argentine is the only player in 2015 to earn a PK in his league debut.

1 Since joining MLS, Portland has lost just one time to the San Jose Earthquakes in 12 league meetings. That is the fewest amount of losses against any Western Conference opponent for Portland.

100 Avaya Stadium will be the 100th different stadium that the Timbers have visited to play a league match since the club's first road match on May 11, 1975, against the Denver Dynamos at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood, Colo. San Jose's new stadium will be the 13th different stadium Portland has played in California, the most of any state.

1,871 This season, the Timbers have had four players (Adam Kwarasey, Alvas Powell, Liam Ridgewell, and Jorge Villafana) play 1,850 minutes or more this season. Each of the quartet is in the top 15 for most minutes played with Portland being the only team in MLS with more than two players with as many minutes in 2015.

90+ Alvas Powell, who turned 21 years old on July 18, is the only MLS player with 90 or more clearances, tackles, and recoveries in 2015. In addition, the Jamaican defender has won more duels than any other MLS player this season.
