U23s, vs. Calgary Foothills FC, 5.27.16

CALGARY, Alberta - In their first road match of the 2016 PDL season, the Timbers U-23s were unable to overcome a four-goal halftime deficit, falling 4-0 to Calgary Foothills FC at Glenmore Athletic Park on Friday night.


Calgary Foothills FC (3-1-1, 9pts) benefited from two finishes from inside the 18-yard box and two long distance strikes to build an early first-half lead.


Searching for a goal, the Timbers U-23s (0-3-2, 2pts) created several scoring opportunities in the second half. Midfielder Daniel Johnson opened the final stanza with two chances in the box, forcing the goalkeeper to make consecutive saves. In the final 20 minutes of the match, midfielder Phil Fives saw his near-post chance parried away for a Portland corner kick and second-half substitute Jaime Miralles redirected his snap header just wide of the far post.


Next up, Portland will play their second and final match against Calgary Foothills FC Sunday, May 29 at 1 p.m. (Pacific).
