PORTLAND, Ore. – We asked for your stories and your designs as part of our By Any Other Name t-shirt contest and special player interview series. And you delivered.

Ruth Moorman, a Portland Thorns FC season ticket holder who lives near Providence Park and is a regular in the North End Rose City Riveters section, was selected as the winner. A graphic designer by trade, Moorman moved to Portland a year-and-a-half ago and quickly discovered the Thorns.

“I just had some friends who went to Portland Timbers games and then I found out they had a women’s team and I was like, ‘THAT is what I’m going to,’” explained Moorman.

Her design involves a red shirt with rose iconography, the popular “By Any Other Name” slogan and other Thorns and Oregon elements.

“I really love all of the designs I’ve been seeing this year with the rose patterns on all of the social media posts,” she said. “I was inspired by that and the Shakespeare quote. I just wanted something that looked kind of elegant and classic with the rose design.”

“I just feel like there’s a lot of local pride here so I did the state of Oregon and the star for Portland,” she added.

Moorman, who was in attendance at the Thorns' dramatic 1-0 win Saturday over Seattle Reign FC, was able to see the Portland players wear her shirt during the pregame warmups and also came down on to the Providence Park pitch after the game. It was an experience she won’t soon forget.

“I got really excited and I came down and took pictures. I felt like a dork,” she said with a laugh. "But it was thrilling.”
