Quick Strikes | Timbers head to Costa Rica to face Saprissa in CONCACAF Champions League

After a key home victory over an MLS opponent, the Portland Timbers head to Costa Rica to continue group play in the 2016-2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League when they take on Deportivo Saprissa (7pm PT, Stream: CONCACAF Facebook Page). Here are five numbers to know in a special CCL edition of Quick Strikes.

17 In five CCL games all-time, the Timbers have scored 17 goals. The 3.4 goals per game is the highest average goal-scoring rate among any MLS team in the competition.

58Ned Grabavoy has experience playing at Saprissa while a member of Real Salt Lake. The midfielder subbed in at the 58-minute mark in RSL's 2-1 loss in the 2010-2011 Champions League semifinals (RSL advanced to the Final on aggregate).

32Founded in 1935, Saprissa have won 32 Primera División titles since the club first joined the top flight in 1949.

11 The match will mark the 11th time that Saprissa has hosted an MLS team in a competitive match. Portland is looking to join Columbus Crew SC as the only MLS clubs to defeat the Costa Rican side at Estadio Ricardo Saprissa Aymá.

171 Timbers midfielder Diego Chara recently recorded his 171st start in MLS since joining the Timbers in 2011. With the start, Chara tied midfielder Darlington Nagbe for the most starts during the Timbers’ MLS era
