Thorns FC midfielder Amandine Henry to join Paris Saint-Germain on short-term loan

PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland Thorns FC midfielder Amandine Henry has joined Division I Féminine side Paris Saint-Germain on a short-term loan, it was announced today.

Henry, 27, helped lead Thorns FC to their first NWSL Shield in her first season with Portland in 2016 after joining the club midseason from Division I Féminine club Lyon. Originally signed by Thorns FC on March 16, 2016, Henry recorded one assist in nine matches (8 starts) for Portland in 2016. She made her Olympic debut in the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she started all four matches for France.

The Lille, France, native finished as the runner-up for the 2015-16 UEFA Best Women’s Player in Europe award on the heels of her accomplishments with Thorns FC, Lyon and France. Additionally, Henry was shortlisted for The Best FIFA Women’s Player 2016 award. In 2015, Henry claimed the Silver Ball at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup and was selected to the inaugural FIFPro Women’s World XI.

In nine seasons with Lyon, prior to joining Portland, Henry helped lead the club to back-to-back UEFA Women’s Champions League titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12, starting and playing all 90 minutes in the championship match both years. In addition, she also helped Lyon win eight league titles and the Women’s French Cup four times.

Paris Saint-Germain Féminines have competed in Division I Féminine for 15 consecutive seasons and won the 2009-10 Coupe de France Féminines. Additionally, PSG reached the 2014-15 UEFA Women’s Champions League Final, where they ultimately lost 2-1 to FFC Frankfurt.
