Darlington Nagbe named to U.S. Men's National Team roster for 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Timbers midfielder Darlington Nagbe has been named to the U.S. Men’s National Team roster for a pair of 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. 

Nagbe, 26, will join the U.S. Men’s National Team for its opening contest against St. Vincent and the Grenadines on Sept. 2 at Arnos Vale Stadium in Kingstown, St. Vincent, beginning at 12:30 p.m. (Pacific). Following the fixture against St. Vincent and the Grenadines, the U.S. Men’s National Team will play host to Trinidad and Tobago on Sept. 6 in Jacksonville, Fla., with kickoff set for 5 p.m. (Pacific). Both matches will be nationally televised, with the contest against St. Vincent and the Grenadines set to air on beIN SPORTS, while the match against Trinidad and Tobago will be broadcasted live on FS1 and Univision.

Nagbe made his debut for the United States during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying on Nov. 13, 2015, playing 26 minutes as a substitute in a 6-1 win against St. Vincent and the Grenadines at Busch Stadium in St. Louis, Mo. Since then, Nagbe has made eight additional appearances on the international stage for the United States, including three appearances in the 2016 Copa America Centenario, featuring against Colombia and Argentina. Heading into the 2016 Copa America Centenario, Nagbe recorded his first international goal for the U.S. Men’s National Team in a 1-0 victory against Ecuador on May 25, scoring the game-winning goal in the 90th minute. 


In 2016, Nagbe has played 20 games (20 starts) for the Timbers, notching five assists, which ranks tied for the most on the team. Since joining Portland in 2011, Nagbe has made 180 appearances (169 starts), ranking him first in games played for the team across all eras (since 1975).
