Portland Timbers, Thorns FC, T2 team up with local partners to present sixth-annual Stand Together Week June 4-10

PORTLAND, Ore. â€“ With the help of local community partners and the City of Portland, the Portland Timbers, Portland Thorns FC and T2 will present their sixth-annual Stand Together Week from June 4-10. The comprehensive, week-long community initiative supports dozens of nonprofit projects and volunteer opportunities across the city. 



On May 31, the City of Portland officially will proclaim June 4-10 as Stand Together Week, while the state of Oregon also will issue an official proclamation on a date to be determined.


Stand Together Week, with the help of Hands On Greater Portland, will consist of 30 volunteer projects and more than 1,000 volunteers, benefitting more than 20 organizations focused on youth and the environment across the Portland metro area. Fans are invited to volunteer and team up with mascot Timber Joey, Timbers, Thorns FC and T2 players and club staff on the various projects.

Supported by Presenting Partners adidas, Alaska Airlines, Coca-Cola, Daimler Trucks North America, Danner, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Hampton Lumber, KPTV FOX 12, New Relic and Providence Health Plan, Stand Together Week kicks off Sunday, June 4, helping IRCO SUN School Gilbert Park Elementary, with garden clean-up, the Children’s Book Bank with sprucing up gently used, donated books, as well as helping with transplanting sunflowers at Timber Jim’s Garden. 


Each project will engage fans and community members and have a meaningful impact on the community. The volunteer opportunities affiliated with Stand Together Week, named after the Timbers’ community outreach platform, range from outdoor park/garden maintenance to construction projects and assisting in special youth and community initiatives. A complete schedule of activities and events is listed below.


Since 2012, Stand Together Week participants have donated 12,631 hours of service at more than 163 events benefitting youth and the environment in the greater-Portland area. Nonprofits served include Playworks, Zenger Farm, Boys & Girls Club, Active Children Portland, Children’s Book Bank and the 4 Worlds United Soccer Alliance, among many others.

<p>Children’s Book Bank</p>
<p>Support literacy by mending, cleaning and organizing gently used books to be distributed to children in the Portland area</p>
<p>12 noon-3 p.m.</p>
<p>DHS Foster Care</p>
<p>Assist the 107ist&nbsp;and Beaverton DHS with room makeovers for waiting areas for foster children</p>
<p>1 p.m.-4 p.m.</p>
<p>Gilbert Park Elementary School</p>
<p>Participate in garden clean-up, including weeding, spreading mulch and building garden beds</p>

<p>Assist with removing non-native, invasive plants and helping to clean up the park by removing trash and winter storm debris</p>

<p>Active Children Portland</p>
<p>Help with running futsal practice drills and games, scrimmages with youth team, field cleanup and food distribution</p>

<p>Hartley Elementary School</p>
<p>Lend a helping hand to beautify Hartley Elementary School through garden maintenance and landscaping projects, and playing a variety of outdoor games with the students</p>

<p>Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center</p>
<p>Assist with a decorating and gardening party by painting pots, adding soil and seeds, building a recycle bin and working in the healing garden</p>

<p>4 Worlds United Soccer Alliance</p>
<p>Interact with soccer players and help 4WU coaches with field setup</p>

<p>Supa Fresh Youth Farm</p>
<p>Help with installing additional planting areas as well as planting vegetables and beautifying the landscape</p>

<p>Willamette West Habitat for Humanity</p>
<p>Help with house renovations, including painting, building walls and framing</p>

<p>Organize and play games with elementary students</p>

<p>Highland Park Middle School</p>
<p>Help to create a maker space area at Highland Park Middle School by painting and moving books, shelving and furniture in the library</p>
