Thorns FC's Horan, Long named to U.S. Women's National Team roster ahead of Tournament of Nations

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielders Lindsey Horan and Allie Long have been selected as part of the 23-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster ahead of the Tournament of Nations July 27-Aug. 3. 


The USWNT will play host to Australia, Brazil and Japan as part of the four-team tournament, opening up against Australia on July 27 in Seattle at CenturyLink Field at 7 p.m. (Pacific) on ESPN. Play continues with a match against Brazil on July 30 in San Diego at Qualcomm Stadium; kickoff is set for 5pm PT on ESPN2 and the tournament concludes for the United States with a match against Japan on Aug. 3 in Carson, Calif., at the StubHub Center. The final match kicks off at 7pm PT on ESPN2.


Now in her second season with Thorns FC, Horan has started and played in 14 matches, tallying three goals and one assist. Long, who is in her fifth season with Portland, has appeared in 13 matches (all starts), registering one goal and one assist. Most recently, Long (27 caps) and Horan (35 caps) appeared in both matches for the United States in Europe against Sweden (June 8) and Norway (June 11). Long started each game, while Horan appeared as a second-half substitute in both matches. 


Both players will depart after Portland’s home match against the Washington Spirit on Saturday, July 22, and will return ahead of the club’s next match against the Houston Dash on Aug. 5.
