With a perfectly timed jump in the 51st minute, Amandine Henry headed home an important equalizer in France’s 1-1 draw with Austria, Saturday afternoon in the UEFA Women’s EURO at Stadion Galgenwaard in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Entering the game, France and Austria sat tied atop Group C with 3 points a piece. Austria put themselves ahead with Lisa Makas' goal in the 27th minute, which they maintained through the end of the first half.
Early in the second half, France was awarded a corner kick, which was sent into the heart of the box. Austrian keeper Manuela Zinsberger nearly got her fingers on the ball, but instead, Henry took a leap and headed the ball over Zinsbergerand and down into the net.
Henry had another chance later in the game, as her off-balanced left-footed strike went curving toward the opposite corner. However, Zinsberger was able to get a hand on the shot and redirect it up and over the crossbar.
With the draw, Henry and the Les Blues maintain their tie atop the Group C standings with Austria, heading into their final group-stage match with Switzerland (July 26, 11:45am PT, ESPN3).
