MATCH RECAP | Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1, Portland Timbers 2

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Timbers rookie forward Jeremy Ebobisse–making his first-ever MLS start–contributed his first-ever MLS goal and assist while midfielder Sebastián Blanco scored the game-winner as Portland downed Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2-1 at BC Place Sunday afternoon.


The win puts the Timbers atop the race for the 2017 Cascadia Cup on seven points through four games played in the three-team, supporter organized rivalry trophy competition.

14' - GOAL (POR) - Portland jumped out to an early lead when rookie forward Jeremy Ebobisse redirected a ball from Dairon Asprilla past a diving David Ousted and into the far corner of the Vancouver net for a 1-0 Timbers lead.

27' - CHANCE (POR) - The Timbers nearly doubled their lead when midfielder Diego Valeri whipped in a corner kick that defender Roy Miller headed just over the cross bar.


33' - CHANCE (POR) - Following another Portland corner, Timbers defender Larrys Mabiala snapped a header down but it bounced just wide of the Whitecaps left post.


39' - SAVE (POR) - Vancouver's Fredy Montero slipped through on a dangerous ball over the top that forced Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson to come off his line but Montero hit it just over him. Defender Lawrence Olum, however, swooped in to clear the ball off the line.

45' - GOAL (VAN) - Whitecaps defender Andrew Jacobsen evened the score at 1-1 when he tapped in a flicked-on ball following a Whitecaps corner kick.


49' - GOAL (POR) - Portland regained the lead when midfielder Sebastián Blanco sped down the left side, played the ball to Ebobisse in the box who then backheeled it back to Blanco. Blanco took a touch before rifling a shot into the lower left corner giving the Timbers a 2-1 lead.

77' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco looked to add to the lead when he let fly a shot from distance but right at Vancouver goalkeeper David Ousted.


80' - SAVE (POR) - Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson made a point-blank save after Vancouver's Brek Shea powered a close shot from inside the box.

85' - SAVE (POR) - Gleeson again came up big when Vancouver's Tim Parker headed down a free kick. Gleeson dove to his right to parry the ball away. 

86' - CHANCE (POR) - Coming down the other way on the counter, Portland midfielder Jack Barmby found himself open on the left corner of the box and hammered a shot on frame only for Ousted to make a save of his own.


The Timbers stay on the road next week when they play the Houston Dynamo at BBVA Compass Stadium on Aug. 5 (5pm PT, ROOT SPORTS).
