Quick Strikes | Blanco, Valeri, and Adi form potent goalscoring trio

In a match that will start earlier than scheduled due to high temperatures in the forecast, the Portland Timbers will square off with the LA Galaxy Sunday morning at Providence Park (11am PT, ESPN). Here are five numbers to know for #PORvLA in the latest edition of Quick Strikes.

17 Since June 1, only one team in MLS has scored more goals than the Timbers’ 17. Thirteen of those goals have been scored by the trio of Fanendo Adi, Sebastian Blanco and Diego Valeri.

2 In his seven seasons with the Timbers, Diego Chara has scored seven goals with two of those goals coming against the LA Galaxy. Earlier this season, Chara scored the game-winner in Portland’s 1-0 victory over the Galaxy at the StubHub Center on March 12.

3 With his assist against Houston, defender Zarek Valentin garnered his third assist of the season. Valentin is the sixth Timbers player with three or more assists this season; last season, only five Timbers players had three or more assists.

324The 324 shots taken by the Timbers this season are the second-most taken by any MLS team in 2017. By comparison, only two MLS teams have allowed more shots than the 296 conceded by the Galaxy this season.

40/40Since joining the Timbers in 2013, Valeri has 50 assists and 48 goals. He is one of two players with at least 40 goals and 40 assists over the last five seasons (Lee Nguyen of the New England Revolution is the other).
