TORONTO - The Portland Timbers lost 4-1 to Toronto FC Saturday evening at BMO Field in Ontario. Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri scored his 50th career league goal for Portland in the loss, becoming just the 18th player in MLS history to tally at least 50 goals and 50 assists in league play.
3' - SAVE (POR) - Toronto's Sebastian Giovinco curled a dangerous free kick around the Portland wall that Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson dove to his left to parry away.
21' - TACKLE (POR) Vytas came sprinting in to place a perfectly timed tackle on Giovinco who was bearing down on goal. The Portland defender got his leg in and swooped the ball away just atop the six yard box.
41' - CHANCE (POR) - Defender Alvas Powell, spying some open space upfield, dribbled forward into the attacking third and hit a low, driven shot from the edge of the 18-yard box forcing a save from TFC's Alexander Bono.
45+1' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland's Sebastián Blanco carried into the Toronto area, spun on three different defenders, quickly switched the ball from his right to his left foot and shot but Bono made another save.
55' - CHANCE (POR) - Coming in from the left side, Blanco played a ball down to Darren Mattocks who then flicked it to an onrushing David Guzmán in the box. Guzmán got to the ball but hit it just over the bar.
58' - GOAL (TOR) - Toronto, on a counter attack, got the ball out wide to the left where Justin Morrow pulled it down, took a touch, and then hit into the upper part of the net for a 1-0 lead.
68' - SAVE (POR) - Goalkeeper Jeff Attinella–who came on in the first half following an injury to Gleeson–made a clutch save as Toronto's Jozy Altidore came through on a breakaway.
72' - GOAL (TOR) - Toronto FC made it a 2-0 lead as Giovinco, sprung down the right side, crossed a perfect ball to Victor Vazquez who re-directed into the back of the net.
76' - GOAL (TOR) - Morrow scored his second goal of the game when he pounced on a ball after a stretch of close passes in the box to give Toronto a 3-0 lead.
87' - GOAL (TOR) - Marco Delgado made it 4-0 for the home side when he slotted home a shot late in the second half.
89' - GOAL (POR) - Valeri wiped away the Toronto clean sheet when he received a ball from Jeremy Ebobisse, slalomed through four different defenders and then placed the ball into the lower corner to make the score 4-1. The goal was Valeri's 50th career tally in his Portland career.
The Portland Timbers will return home next Friday to host the New York Red Bulls at Providence Park on Aug. 18 (7pm PT, FS1).
