Portland Thorns FC have three land on NWSL Team of the Month

PORTLAND, Ore. – Three Portland Thorns FC players – Lindsey Horan, Hayley Raso and Emily Sonnett – landed on the NWSL Team of the Month for August. The three contributed to a successful month of August in which the club assembled a 4-1-0 record and put themselves in position to clinch an NWSL playoffs berth last weekend.

Horan registered a goal and an assist in five games played in August. She delivered the game-winner on Aug. 19 in a win against the Houston Dash. Horan set up the opening goal by Raso in a 3-2 road win Aug. 12 at the Chicago Red Stars.

Raso scored three goals in four games played last month. Two of her goals helped the club to a road win against rival Seattle Reign FC on Aug. 26 - the club's first away victory in Seattle since 2013. The brace was the first of her NWSL career and helped Raso secure NWSL Player of the Week honors in Week 18.

Sonnett played in all five games in August. In addition to aiding in a clean sheet Aug. 19, she recorded two goals last month. She scored the game-winning goal of a 3-2 road win at Chicago on Aug. 12. It’s her second NWSL Team of the Month honor, also being selected in the month of April.
