Portland Thorns FC's Heath, Horan, Long named to U.S. roster for friendlies against New Zealand

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielders Tobin Heath, Lindsey Horan and Allie Long have been selected as part of the 22-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster for a pair of friendlies against New Zealand on Sept. 15 and 19, it was announced today.


Heath, Horan and Long will not miss any league games with Thorns FC, and will join the U.S. Women’s National Team following Portland’s away match against the Boston Breakers on Sunday, before returning to join the squad ahead of Thorns FC’s next game, an away fixture on Sept. 23 against the Orlando Pride.


The USWNT will play host to New Zealand in the first of two matches on Sept. 15 at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.; kickoff is set for 7 p.m. (Pacific) with a national television broadcast on ESPN2. The two teams square off for a second time in Cincinnati on Sept. 19 at Nippert Stadium at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific) on FS1. Head coach Jill Ellis will name 18 players to suit up for each of the two matches.


Long (30 caps) and Horan (37 caps) appeared for the USWNT at the Tournament of Nations in July, while Heath (131 caps) returns to camp for the first time since playing in the SheBelieves Cup in March.


This season with Thorns FC, Horan is one of five players to have started in all 21 matches, tallying four goals and two assists, while Long has two goals and one assist in 18 games played. Heath has not made an appearance for Portland this season, but was recently activated from the disabled list.


Thorns FC travels to take on the Boston Breakers on Sunday, Sept. 10, at Jordan Field. Sunday’s match kicks off at 3 p.m. (Pacific) and features a live, high-definition web stream available at www.nwslsoccer.com and www.go90.com.
