Timbers Academy forward Akil Watts has been called into camp with the U.S. U-17 National Team as the team continues preparation for the upcoming 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup in October.

Under head coach John Hackworth, the U.S. U-17s will train at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., from Sept. 19-24. Watts was also called into camp with the team earlier this month (Sept. 5-14).

The United States kicks off the U-17 World Cup on Oct. 6 against host India. The team’s remaining Group Stage matches include Ghana (Oct. 9) and Colombia (Oct. 12).

Three Timbers Academy teams continued their U.S. Soccer Development Academy seasons Sept. 9 against Cascadia-rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC teams at the Whitecaps FC National Soccer Development Centre in British Columbia.

The Timbers U-19 Academy (1-1-0, 3pts) suffered a 4-0 loss to the Whitecaps U-19s. It was close at the break, with the Timbers trailing 1-0, but the ‘Caps pulled away in the second half scoring three times, including a brace from Theo Bair.

The Timbers U-17 Academy (0-2-0, 0pts) was handed a 2-1 loss by the ‘Caps U-17s. Vancouver scored twice in the opening 35 minutes, including one goal on a penalty kick. But the Timbers U-17s pulled one back in the 42nd minute on a counter attack finished by Nicholas Scardina for his first goal on the campaign.

The Timbers U-15 Academy (0-1-0, 0pts) made their USSDA debut in their match against the Whitecaps U-15s – a 2-0 loss.

The Timbers U-19s, U-17s and U-15s all return to action on Sept. 23 on the road against Pateadores down at U.C. Irvine.

Meanwhile, the Timbers U-13 and U-14 Academy teams see their first action of the 2017-18 season on Saturday, Sept. 16 against Pacific Northwest Soccer Club in Tukwila, Wash.
