International Notebook | Thorns FC's Lindsey Horan helps USWNT to win in hometown

During a long day of international play, four Portland Thorns FC playerā€™s international sides saw action in a flurry of friendlies on Friday.


Hometown hero Lindsey Horan helped the U.S. Womenā€™s National Team to a 3-1 win against New Zealand at Dickā€™s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo.


Horan, who was in the Starting XI, took three shots and earned an assist on the first of Julie Ertzā€™s two goals during her 74 minutes played. Allie Long subbed on in the 60th minute and put in a strong 30 minutes of her own.


Horanā€™s assist ā€” her tenth for the USWNT ā€” came in the 16th minute to open the scoring.

The USWNT and New Zealand will face off once more, a Tuesday evening clash at 4:30pm PT in Cincinnati, Ohio, on FS1.


Across the Pacific, Hayley Raso and the Australia Womenā€™s National Team captured a 2-1 win against Brazil in front of a sellout crowd of 15,089 at Pepper Stadium in Penrith, New South Wales. Raso came off the bench in the 70th minute to help see out the win.


The two teams will face each other again on Tuesday in another international friendly at 2:30am PT.


The day started across the pond in France, where Amandine Henry and Les Blues claimed a 1-0 win against Chile. Henry was an available sub, but did not see action. France will next face Spain on Monday at 12pm PT for another international friendly.


Additionally, Dagny Brynjarsdottir and Iceland will square off against the Faroe Islands in a World Cup Qualifier on Monday at 11:15am PT. Nadia Nadim and Denmark are scheduled to play Hungary in a World Cup Qualifier on Tuesday at 9am PT.
