#StatMan Three | Valeri puts his name in MLS record book

Diego Valeri #4, Timbers vs. LA, 8.6.17

Playing a third consecutive road match, the Portland Timbers fell to Real Salt Lake, 2-1, Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium. Here are three key takeaways from #RSLvPOR in an all-Diego Valeri edition of StatMan Three.

8 With his headed goal at the beginning of the second half, Valeri became the first player in MLS history to score in eight consecutive matches.

18 Valeri's goal gives the Argentine maestro 18 goals for the season, tying the MLS record for goals by a midfielder in a single season. It also ties the Timbers all-era, single-season goal-scoring record with USL-era players, Fadi Afash and McKinley Tennyson.

5 Having never scored a goal with his head coming into 2017, Valeri now has five this season. He is tied with Orlando City SC's Cyle Larin for most headed goals in MLS this season.
