On Thursday evening, Thorns FC's Lindsey Horan,Allie Long and the U.S. Women’s National Team played fellow Portland teammate Christine Sinclair and the Canadian Women’s National Team to a 1-1 draw in and international friendly in Vancouver, BC.

Horan and Sinclair each earned the start for their international sides, going the full 90 minutes in the match, while Long came on as a late second half substitution. Sinclair earned an assist on Canada’s lone goal and Horan nearly scored one of her own on a 39th minute set piece.

The United States took the first lead of the game in the 31st minute when Alex Morgan snuck a shot through three defenders, sending it bouncing into the far corner of the goal. Eight minutes later after taking the 1-0 lead, a foul by Jesse Fleming netted the Yanks a free kick from outside the box with a chance to double their margin. Horan took the kick from 28 yards out straight through Canada’s wall. The shot hung dead center but was just flicked over the bar by  the Canadian goalkeeper Stephanie Labbe.

After the break, Canada tied things up on a goal by Adriana Leon. Following a blocked header, and a rebounded shot off the crossbar, the ball fell to the foot of Sinclair. With a nifty flick of the ball over her shoulder, the ball dropped right in front of the goal where Leon one-timed it for the equalizer.

Neither team proved able to break the 1-1 tie through the remaining minutes of play as the match ended in a draw. The two teams will face off again on Sunday, when they meet at Avaya Stadium in San Jose for a 6pm PT match on FS1.
