Thorns FC to face Orlando Pride in 2018 home opener on Apr. 15

PORTLAND, Ore. â€“ Portland Thorns FC will play host to the Orlando Pride at Providence Park in the club’s 2018 home opener on Sunday, April 15, it was announced today as NWSL unveiled details for each club’s home-opening match for its sixth season. The match against Orlando is set to begin at 3 p.m. (Pacific). 



Additionally, Thorns FC announced that the team will play its first game of the season on Saturday, March 24, taking on the North Carolina Courage at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park at 12:30 p.m. (Pacific) on Lifetime.


Portland’s home opener is set for April 15 due to the construction currently underway at Providence Park as part of phase one of the stadium expansion. As a result of opening the 2018 season on the road due to the construction, Thorns FC also will feature in the Chicago Red Stars home opener on Saturday, March 31, at Toyota Park; kickoff is set for 5:15 p.m. (Pacific). This match is part of a doubleheader at Toyota Park that features the Portland Timbers and Chicago Fire in the first game set to kick off at 3 p.m. (Pacific). 


The April 15 match marks the third consecutive season Thorns FC have faced Orlando in their home opener, with Portland earning a 2-0 win in the club’s 2017 home opener on April 15. Since 2013, Portland is 5-0-0 in home openers, and Thorns FC have also logged a record of 35-12-8 at Providence Park.
