Portland Thorns FC's Horan, Sonnett named to U.S. Women's National Team roster ahead of Mexico friendlies

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielder Lindsey Horan and defender Emily Sonnett have been named to the 22-player roster for the U.S. Women’s National Team ahead of a pair of friendlies against Mexico on April 5 and April 8, it was announced today.


Both players will depart and join the U.S. Women’s National Team after the team’s match against the Chicago Red Stars on Saturday, March 31, and will return ahead of Portland’s 2018 home opener against the Orlando Pride on Sunday, April 15. Horan and Sonnett will not miss any matches while away on national team duty.


The USWNT will play host to Mexico in a pair of friendlies, starting with a match on April 5 at EverBank Field in Jacksonville, Fla. at 4 p.m. (Pacific) on FS1. The two teams will meet for a second match in Houston at BBVA Compass Stadium on April 8; kickoff is set for 10:30 a.m. (Pacific) with a national television broadcast on FOX.


Horan (47 caps) and Sonnett (15 caps) both played in matches for the USWNT most recently at the SheBelieves Cup earlier this month. Horan started all three matches during the tournament, while Sonnett made two appearances and started in the final match of the tournament against England on March 7.
