MATCH RECAP | Orlando City SC 3, Portland Timbers 2

ORLANDO, Fla. – Despite a penalty kick goal and assist from midfielder Diego Valeri and defender Bill Tuiloma's first career MLS goal, the Portland Timbers fell 3-2 to Orlando City SC Sunday at Orlando City Stadium.

The Lions came from behind with goals from Chris Mueller, Sacha Klejstan and Dom Dwyer.

Match Moments

3' - CHANCE (POR): Portland had a chance early as midfielder Andy Polo, freed up on the left side with a pass from Sebastián Blanco, went straight to goal with his shot. Goalkeeper Joe Bendik got a hand to it and it was then cleared away by the Orlando defense.

11' - BLOCK (POR): A cross from the end line into Orlando's Josué Colman at the penalty spot gave the forward a close shot on target that Portland defender Zarek Valentin managed to deflect away with a timely block.

20' - GOAL (POR): After a VAR review, a penalty was awarded to Portland following a foul on Blanco in the box. The review also rescinded a second yellow card on Blanco. Midfielder Diego Valeri stepped to the spot and lasered a shot into the left corner to give the Timbers a 1-0 lead.

45+2' - SAVE (POR): Timbers goalkeeper Jake Gleeson made a miraculous save following an Orlando corner where the ball fell to Justin Meram. Meram's point-blank shot was parried away by Gleeson right on the doorstep.

48' - CHANCE (POR): Cristhian Paredes combined with Blanco on a nice give-and-go that freed Blanco up for a hard shot that clanged off the crossbar down and away. Paredes' attempt on the rebound with a half-volley was then blocked by the Orlando defense.

49 - CHANCE (POR): A minute later, Valeri was freed up on the right side with a nice through ball from Paredes. He slipped a shot through that pinged off the far post and away.

59' - GOAL (POR): Timbers defender Bill Tuiloma scored his first career MLS goal as he thumped a header into the top corner of the Orlando goal for a 2-0 Portland lead. Valeri picked up the assist via a pinpoint free kick from the right side of the 18-yard box.

80' - GOAL (ORL): Orlando pulled a goal back as Chris Mueller flicked on a header into the back of the Portland net to make the score 2-1.

82' - GOAL (ORL): Following a controversial foul called by referree Baldomero Toledo on Alvas Powell to Dom Dwyer in the box, midfielder Sacha Klejstan converted the penalty to make it 2-2.

87' - GOAL (ORL): Dwyer scored as he ran onto a ball from RJ Allen to give Orlando a 3-2 lead.

90' - CHANCE (POR): Dairon Asprilla burst down the right side in on goal. His hard shot was saved, though, by Bendik.

90+4' - CHANCE (POR): Diego Chara whipped in a great cross that a diving Asprilla headed just wide of the far post.

The Timbers return home to Providence Park for the 2018 home opener on Saturday, Apr. 14 against Minnesota United FC (7:30pm PT, FOX 12 Oregon).
