Thorns FC sign Adelaide Gay as goalkeeper replacement

PORTLAND, Ore. â€“ Portland Thorns FC have signed Adelaide Gay as a goalkeeper replacement, it was announced today. Additionally, midfielder Sandra Yu has been released from her national team replacement contract and midfielder Andressinha has been added to the roster after returning from international duty.


Gay, 28, began her professional career with Thorns FC in the club’s inaugural season in 2013 and also spent time with the Washington Spirit (2014) and most recently with Seattle Reign FC (2018). In 2015, Gay signed with Swedish side Kvarnsvedens IK and helped the team earn promotion to the top division before departing the club to sign with IBV in Iceland for the 2017 season.  


In the case of an injured goalkeeper, or when a team has less than two available goalkeepers, a team is able to add a goalkeeper to its roster until its goalkeeper is back to full participation with the team. Adrianna Franch and Bella Geist are both unavailable due to injury.
