MATCH RECAP | San Jose Earthquakes 0, Portland Timbers 1

SAN JOSE  – Portland midfielder Diego Valeri's stunning 88th minute free kick golazo gave the Timbers a 1-0 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes Saturday evening at Avaya Stadium. The goal was Valeri's fourth of the season and the win was Portland's third in a row.

Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella was flawless in net with four saves and the team picked up their second-straight clean sheet in the win.

Match Moments

8' - CHANCE (POR): Timbers midfielder Sebastián Blanco carried the ball with confidence down the left channel. He cut the ball back to an open Fanendo Adi at the top of the box. Adi, with time, fired a shot that pinged off the right post.

23' - CHANCE (POR): Blanco created another good chance as Adi sprinted on a diagonal run into the box. Blanco found him but Adi's side-footed shot went just wide of the right post.

32' - SAVE (POR): San Jose's Valeri Qazaishvili, with some space just outside the 18-yard box, curled a shot on frame that Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella dove to his right to expertly parry away.

44' - CHANCE (POR): On a ball flipped in from Blanco, Portland midfielder Cristhian Paredes lined up a shot that San Jose goalkeeper Josh Tarbell leapt to tip over the bar.

45' - CHANCE (POR): On the break, Andy Polo carried the ball to the endline before cutting it back to Adi at the top of the six-yard box. Adi's shot hit the side netting, wide of the far post.

54' - SAVE (POR): On a San Jose free kick from 30 yards out, Attinella made another great stop as forward Danny Hoesen headed the ball on net only to have the Portland 'keeper push the ball aside.

88' - GOAL (POR): Diego Valeri gave the Timbers a 1-0 lead with an absolutely gorgeous free kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Valeri's ball curled around the right side of the San Jose wall before corkscrewing back into the upper 90 of the goal.
