U.S. OPEN CUP RECAP | Los Angeles FC 3, Portland Timbers 2

LOS ANGELES – Despite goals from Julio Cascante and Vytas, the Portland Timbers were eliminated from the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Wednesday night as they lost 3-2 to Los Angeles FC in the tournament quarterfinals at Banc of California Stadium.

Match Moments

19' - CHANCE (POR) - Sebastián Blanco threaded a pass through to Dairon Asprilla who had made a diagonal run into the box. Asprilla's first shot was saved by LAFC's Tyler Miller and Asprilla's follow-up shot was also pushed away by the Los Angeles goalkeeper.

23' - SAVE (POR) - LAFC's Latif Blessing, with a bit of space just inside the Portland 18-yard box, chipped a shot on frame that Portland goalkeeper Jeff Attinella pushed over the bar.

33' - OWN GOAL (LAFC) - LAFC went up 1-0 following a cross into the box from Carlos Vela that Timbers midfielder David Guzmán attempted to head away but the ball went into his own net.

38' - GOAL (LAFC) - After a Los Angeles cross into the box that saw Attinella initially make a great save on a point-blank shot from Jordan Harvey, the Timbers were unable to clear the ball. Vela collected the loose rebound and tucked a left-footed shot into the bottom left corner for a 2-0 LAFC lead.

45+2' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers cut the deficit in half  to 2-1 just before halftime on a Julio Cascante header. Portland's Guzmán sent a free kick from 35 yards out into the LAFC mixer that an unmarked Cascante nodded into the back of the net.

51' - GOAL (LAFC) - Los Angeles went up 3-1 as Marco Ureña re-directed a shot from Jordan Harvey into the Timbers net.

52' - GOAL (POR) - A minute later, Portland clawed back again as Asprilla worked the right side of the box with some deft footwork. His ball across the face of goal went all the way out to the left side for defender Vytas who raced in and slotted it home to make the score 3-2.

89' - CHANCE (POR) - With the Timbers pushing for an equalizer, Vytas served in a ball from the left side that found Diego Valeri at the back post. He headed the ball on frame down but Miller made the save.

90+1' - SAVE (POR) - Attinella kept things close as he dove to his left to deny a knuckling free kick from LAFC's Laurent Ciman.
