PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC midfielders Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan and defender Emily Sonnett have been named to the 20-player U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the 2018 Concacaf Women’s Championship, which spans from Oct. 4-17 at three venues across the United States.
The 2018 tournament marks the second time Heath (138 caps) has been selected to the roster for a FIFA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament, while it marks the first selection for Horan (56 caps) and Sonnett (21 caps).
The USWNT will face Mexico, Panama and Trinidad & Tobago in Group A. All Group A matches will be played at Sahlen’s Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park, while Group B, which includes Canada, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Cuba, will play matches at H-E-B Park in Edinburg, Texas. Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas will host the semifinals, third place and championship game. The top two finishers in each group after round-robin play advance to the semifinals. The winners of each semifinal match and the third-place match will earn an automatic berth in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. The fourth-place finisher will earn a spot in a two-game playoff against Argentina, which was the third-place team from South America, for a final qualifying spot.
Beginning on Oct. 4, the United States squares off against Mexico at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific), then takes on Panama on Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. (Pacific) and concludes group play against Trinidad & Tobago on Oct. 10 at 4:30 p.m. (Pacific). The semifinal matches are set for 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. (Pacific) on Oct. 14. The championship is set for 6 p.m. (Pacific) on Oct. 17 with the third-place match at 3 p.m. (Pacific).
