As part of our inaugural group of ticket holders, Nicholas and Katie won the chance to have a VIP experience for the Portland Timbers vs. Real Salt Lake match, including KeyBank Club seats, and a chance to visit with Timber Joey on the field!
We asked Nicholas a few questions after the match.
What was your first memory of/first match supporting the Timbers?
"I moved here in 2004. I remember my first time walking into Providence Park (then PGE Park) and feeling the stadium’s history seeming from the bench seats. I remember Byron Alvarez lighting up the scoreboard, Timber Jim climbing the spar pole, and the energy of the Timbers Army. There was a sense of being on an old pirate ship. With chainsaws. It was great."
What was your favorite moment of the match tonight?
Watching the second goal develop as Chara charged forward on his long run toward the goal. His legs were moving so fast that he started leaning backward as he flew past the RSL defense, and Blanco’s pass was right on the money.
Honorable mention to Steve Clark for his lightning fast reaction saves to keep RSL off the scoreboard."
What is your prediction for the next MLS match – Timbers at Vancouver Whitecaps?
"Timbers 4, Caps 0."
What else should we know about your Timbers fandom? Any favorite pieces of Timbers memorabilia?
"We have a couple of scarves I picked up when I first started following the Timbers, but thankfully they’ve been washed a few times since then. After Katie and I met in 2009, we started watching games together. Now we’re happily married with a five-year-old daughter, Margot, who loves the Timbers, the Thorns, and hot dogs on game days."
Congratulations Nicholas and Katie! And thank you for your continued support!
