Quick Strikes | Valeri to face former Argentine manager Schelotto for first time

Diego Valeri #2, Timbers @ FCC, 3.17.19

For the second time this season, the Portland Timbers will travel to Southern California as they play the LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park on Sunday (6pm PT, ESPN2). Here are five numbers to know for #LAvPOR in the latest edition of Quick Strikes.

16 In his first job as a manager, Galaxy head coach Guillermo Barros Schelotto oversaw Argentine side Lanús while Diego Valeriwas a player there. Valeri played 16 games under Schelotto before signing with the Timbers prior to the 2013 season.

250 With his next appearance, Diego Chara will play in his 250th MLS (regular season and playoffs) match for Portland. Since his debut on April 23, 2011, no MLS player has played more combined regular-season and playoff matches for a single club than Chara.

17 While this will be the first time the Timbers will play in the newly named Dignity Health Sports Park, the match will be the 17th different time the club has played at the stadium formerly known as the StubHub Center. In all eras of the Timbers, the only visiting stadiums Portland has played more matches in are CenturyLink Field and Swangard Stadium.

12Sebastián Blanco has 12 away goals in his two-plus seasons in MLS, which places him in a tie for third-most away goals in MLS by a Timbers player. One of those 12 goals came the last time Portland played in Carson last season.

275 Since joining MLS in 2011, the Portland Timbers have played 275 regular-season games. In their nine seasons, the club has made appeared in two MLS Cups – winning the 2015 edition – while having a record of 102-92-81.
