Tobin Heath #2, Thorns vs. Spirit, 5.21.16

PORTLAND, Ore.– Portland Thorns FC midfielder Tobin Heath was named the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Player of the Week for Week 6, it was announced today.

Heath tallied a goal and her NWSL-leading fifth assist of the season as Portland extended its unbeaten streak to a club-record six games in a 4-1 win against the Washington Spirit on May 21 at Providence Park.

Heath helped open the scoring for Thorns FC, delivering a well-placed corner kick to the back post for midfielder Lindsey Horan in the 26th minute. Late in first-half stoppage time, Heath tallied her first goal of the 2016 campaign, receiving a scoop pass from forward Christine Sinclair in the box and chipping the ball over the outstretched arms of the Washington goalkeeper.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of media members that cover the league on a consistent basis. For more information on the NWSL Media Association, follow them on Twitter.

Thorns FC (3-0-3, 12pts) remain at home this week, playing host to Cascadia-rival Seattle Reign FC on Sunday, May 29, at Providence Park; kickoff is set for 4 p.m. (Pacific) with a live web stream at www.thornsfc.com
