PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Thorns FC defender Ellie Carpenter and forwards Caitlin Foord and Hayley Raso have been named to the 23-player Australia Women’s National Team roster for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, it was announced today. The roster will not become official until it is submitted to FIFA on May 24, which is the deadline for all teams to submit their final squads.

This marks the third time Foord has been named to Australia’s roster for the World Cup, featuring in the 2011 and 2015 tournaments, while Raso has been named to her second roster after earning a spot on the 2015 team. Carpenter was named to a World Cup roster for the first time in her international career.

Carpenter, 19, has earned 31 caps for the Matildas, recording one goal. In 2019, Carpenter has started and played in each of Thorns FC’s first four matches.

Foord, 24, made her World Cup debut in 2011 at the age of 16 and was named Best Young Player at the tournament. In 2015, Foord appeared in all five matches for Australia, helping guide the team to the quarterfinal round. During her international career, Foord has made 71 appearances, tallying 16 goals. In 2019 with Thorns FC, Foord has appeared in all four matches (4 starts), registering two goals and one assist.

Raso, 24, has made 34 appearances with the Matildas, recording four goals. She was part of Australia’s World Cup roster at the 2015 tournament, but did not make an appearance. Raso made her 2019 debut for Thorns FC on May 11 against the Orlando Pride, logging 45 minutes.
