Quick Strikes | Portland tied for first in MLS for goals scored from set plays

Bill Tuiloma #2, Timbers @ TFC, 4.27.19

The Portland Timbers will play midweek for the first time in 2019 as the team takes on the Houston Dynamo Wednesday at BBVA Compass Stadium (5:30pm PT, ROOT SPORTS). Here are five numbers to know for #HOUvPOR in the latest Quick Strikes.

3 Dating back to last season, the Timbers have won each of their last three matches that have been played on a Wednesday. Portland's last Wednesday match was their 2-1 victory at FC Dallas in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.

4 Following Bill Tuiloma’s volleyed finish from Diego Valeri’s corner-kick service against Toronto FC on April 27 at BMO Field, the Portland Timbers rank tied for first in MLS with D.C. United and the LA Galaxy for goals scored from set plays.

11 Wednesday's match will be Portland's 11th consecutive road match to open the season, which will set a record the longest road trip in MLS history. The previous high was the 10 consecutive away matches played by Sporting Kansas City in 2011.

15 In their last match, the Timbers outshot Vancouver Whitecaps FC by a 27-12 margin. The 15-shot advantage was the largest the Timbers have ever had in a road match.

5X9 Since Opta started tracking MLS in 2010, there have been 22 matches where a player created nine or more chances. Including last Friday, Diego Valeri has five of those 22, which is the most among all MLS players.
