MATCH RECAP | Houston Dynamo 1, Portland Timbers 1

HOUSTON – New Designated Player signing Brian Fernandez made a sparkling debut as he scored in the 77th minute and the Portland Timbers came back to draw the Houston Dynamo 1-1 Wednesday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. Midfielder Sebastián Blanco picked up his fifth assist in the match for Portland.

Match Moments

12 - SAVE (POR) - Houston's Alberth Elis found himself with space and curled a shot on frame that Timbers goalkeeper Jeff Attinella jumped to parry away.

16' - CHANCE (POR) - Timbers midfielder Renzo Zambrano, making his first MLS appearance, won the ball at midfield and pushed forward. He passed to Andy Polo who carried to the left before performing a give and go with Sebastián Blanco, the return pass being a nifty back heel. Blanco's final shot skimmed off the top of the cross bar.

28' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco, on the edge of the 18-yard box, chipped a nice ball up and over for forward Jeremy Ebobisse who was jostled by a Houston defender and his shot went inches wide of the right post.

40' - GOAL (HOU) - On a Houston corner kick, Elis flicked a header on to forward Mauro Manotas on the back post who chested the ball into the back of the net and a 1-0 lead for the Dynamo.

48' - CHANCE (POR) - Diego Valeri, 35 yards out on a free kick, curled a hard shot over the wall that Houston goalkeeper Joe Willis jumped to push over the bar.

77' - GOAL (POR) - Timbers forward Brian Fernandez, who came on in the 65th minute to make his MLS debut, expertly timed a run past the Houston backline to receive a pinpoint long ball from Blanco. Fernandez took a touch and then slotted it home to tie the game at 1-1.

95+6' - CHANCE (POR) - Timbers midfielder Tomas Conechny, working on the right, slipped a ball to Blanco at the top of the box. He faked a pass before shooting a ball that was deflected and saved by Willis.
