Gate names, water stations, concessions, and more: What's New at Providence Park

As part of the massive eastside expansion of Providence Park that is set to debut on June 1, a variety of important programming and guest amenities have been added or amended to enhance the supporter experience at Providence Park.

While you may already know about the additional 4,000 new seats on the eastside, the new video wall or the upgrades to the westside concourses, you may not be aware of a variety of these ancillary features, as outlined below.

CHARGING KIOSKS
A total of 10 charging kiosks have been added throughout the building, at locations both inside and immediately outside the venue (at select gates). Each station will have connections for Apple and Android devices.

CLOSED CAPTIONING
All PA announcements for every Timbers and Thorns home match will be closed captioned on the LED fascia located on the Providence Sports Care Center. Additionally, captioning will be available via a custom landing page on timbers.com.

CONCESSIONS
The food and beverage offerings have been dramatically adjusted to incorporate a wider variety of options, and a larger presence of local purveyors throughout the venue.

Additionally, all concession prices have been frozen – representing no price increases from last season – across the board at Providence Park in 2019. “Park Pricing” games, presented by Coors Light, have also been announced. During Wednesday and Thursday evening games, the club will be offering $2 hot dogs, $2 nachos and $5, 16-ounce cans of Coors Light for four Timbers games, and two Thorns games in 2019.

GATE NAMES
As a result of adding additional gates to Providence Pack, the gate naming system has been updated from a numeric to an alphabetical system. The gates, labeled A-G, follow a counter-clockwise pattern around the venue starting in the SE corner. The new names and locations are listed below.

New Gate Name Previous Gate Name Physical Location
Gate A Providence Sports Care Entrance 18th Ave. toward Salmon St.
Gate B Gate 1 Adjacent to Gate A
Gate C n/a Along 18th Ave. at Yamhill St.
Gate D Gate 2 Corner of 18th Ave. and Morrison St.
Gate E Gate 3 Along Morrison Street (Timbers Army Entrance)
Gate F Gate 4 Corner of 20th AVe. and Morrison St.
Gate G Gate 5 20th Ave. toward Salmon St.

LYFT/RIDESHARE
There will be three specific rideshare pick-up and drop-off locations located around Providence Park. The locations, while subject to change, will be located:

  • On SW Alder St. at the corner of SW Alder and SW 18th Ave. in front of Scrap PDX
  • On SW 21st Ave. near Levine’s Cleaners, heading north towards Burnside
  • On SW Salmon St. heading east next to Lincoln High School near the intersection of 16th Ave. (This location will not be in operation on June 1 due to the Rose Festival Starlight Parade.)

MERCHANDISE
To better represent the Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns merchandise offerings, the merchandise platform will now operate under the name PTFC Authentics. All physical club stores and kiosks will fall under the new name, including the brand-new store located on the corner of 20th Ave. and Morrison St., and the renovated existing store, inside the stadium next to section 101/201, right inside of Gate D. During non-event days, the new store on 20th Ave. will offer Timbers merchandise, while the renovated existing store right inside of Gate D will offer Thorns gear.

See map above for all locations.

MORRISON STREET CLOSURE
Morrison street will be completely closed to both east and westbound traffic starting four hours prior to kickoff for Timbers AND Thorns matches. Local residents will retain access into and out of the apartment complexes via staffed flagging positions at the corner of 20th and Morrison streets.

PARKING
Parking is even more limited near the stadium and is also restricted on game days. If driving, we strongly encourage you to park downtown at a SmartPark garage or one of the many nearby parking lots/garages. See map for all locations.

TICKETING
SeatGeek is the new official ticketing partner for the Portland Timbers and Thorns. As of this season, all tickets will be digital, primarily scanned off of your mobile device for entry. View a comprehensive tutorial here.

TRIMET
Bus line 24 has been adjusted and will take travelers directly to Providence Park from Northeast Portland. The route, which currently runs between Gateway Transit Center and Legacy Emanuel Hospital on N Vancouver Ave, is being extended to cross the Fremont Bridge and run along NW 18th and 19th avenues to Providence Park.

New route information can be viewed here.

Additionally, more cars will be added to MAX service on match days to and from the venue.

TV/DIGITAL DISPLAYS
Approximately 100 new TVs and digital monitors have been added to and throughout the venue to ensure you never miss a minute of the action if you leave your seat to get a drink or grab a meal.

WATER STATIONS
Additional drinking fountains and water stations have been added throughout the venue. There will be a total of nine (9) locations throughout the facility. See map above for locations.

WEST/NORTH SIDE RESTROOMS
All restrooms on the existing north and west side of the stadium, including those on each level of the Sunset Porsche Audi Suites have been completely renovated with new interior finishes.
