MATCH RECAP | New York City FC 0, Portland Timbers 1

NEW YORK – Midfielder Sebastián Blanco scored an early goal in the first half while goalkeeper Steve Clark made five saves and the Portland Timbers shut out New York City FC 1-0 Sunday evening to hand the Bronx club their first loss at Yankee Stadium in 2019.

Match Moments

6' - CHANCE (POR) - Timbers midfielder Diego Valeri sent Dairon Asprilla down the right sideline with a perfectly weighted ball. Asprilla darted around an NYC defender on his way to the endline and hit a sharp-angled shot that hit New York goalkeeper Brad Stuver and then off the post and away.

14' - GOAL (POR) - Portland went out to a 1-0 lead as Valeri chipped in a dangerous free kick from 25 yards away that dropped for a New York defender who was unable to clear it. Sebastián Blanco calmly hit the loose ball into the far corner for his third goal of the year.

28' - SAVE (POR) - NYC's Ronald Matarrita found himself with space and hit a hard 25-yard shot on frame but right at Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark who made the save.

30 - CLEARANCE (POR) - A curling ball from New York was heading to the back post for Valentín Castellanos but Portland defender Zarek Valentin alertly knocked the ball away wide of the net for a corner.

69' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco popped up near the edge of the left side of the 18-yard box and uncorked a dipping shot that Stuver had to punch away.

76' - CHANCE (POR) - Blanco curled a ball along the ground that went past Stuver to an open Jeremy Ebobisse on the back post. Ebobisse took a touch and then hit his left-footed shot off the right post.

90+1 - SAVE (POR) - New York's Anton Tinnerholm came down the right channel and tried to chip Clark but the Portland 'keeper came off his line to knock down the shot, run it out of the box and then kick the ball out of play.

90+5 - SAVE (POR) - Clark came up big again in stoppage time when he jumped to tip over the bar a headed shot from Sebastian Ibeagha.
