Quick Strikes | Since 2013, no MLS team has more USOC wins than Portland

Brian Fernandez, Timbers vs. LA, 7.27.19

The Portland Timbers will look to advance to their third Cup final in the past five years as they take on Minnesota United FC Wednesday night in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup Semifinals at Allianz Field (5pm PT, ESPN+). Here are five numbers to know in a special USOC edition of Quick Strikes.

2 Portland is playing in the semifinals of the competition for the second time, having reached the stage in 2013. Diego Chara and Diego Valeri are the only Timbers who played in that match who are still on the roster.

6 Wednesday's match will be the sixth match in club history in either the quarterfinals or semifinals of the U.S. Open Cup. All six matches have been in the last six years and all six have been on the road.

10 Starting in 2013, the Timbers have won 10 matches in U.S. Open Cup play. Portland is tied with Sporting Kansas City for the most wins by an MLS team in the competition in that span.

5 In his two years as Timbers head coach, Giovanni Savarese has led the club to five wins in the U.S. Open Cup. The five wins in the last two seasons are tied for the most U.S. Open Cup victories by the club in a two-year span.

3 Forward Brian Fernandez has scored three goals in Cup competition this season. Only four players have scored more goals in this year's U.S. Open Cup than Fernandez.
