MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 3, Vancouver Whitecaps FC 1

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers exploded for a 3-1 victory over Vancouver Whitecaps FC Saturday night at Providence Park. Midfielder Sebastián Blanco had a goal and an assist, Marvin Loría hammered a go-ahead golazo in the second half and Jeremy Ebobisse iced the win with his eighth tally of the season the 90th minute. Additionally, midfielder Tomás Conechny picked up up his first career MLS assist while Diego Valeri contributed two assists of his own. 


The victory also vaulted Portland into first place on six points in the three-team Cascadia Cup competition with Vancouver and Seattle Sounders FC.



Match Moments

20' - CHANCE (POR) - A cross from Portland's Zarek Valentin was deflected out to defender Jorge Villafaña on the left side. His hard shot was saved by Vancouver goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau but fell to Diego Valeri on the right side of goal. Valeri's hard followup shot was blocked by Whitecaps defender Ali Adnan's face and out for a corner.

25' - CHANCE (POR) - Sebastián Blanco shot a dangerous ball into the mixer that forced Crépeau to jump and tip over the bar.


28' - GOAL (POR) - Three minutes later, Blanco gave Portland a 1-0 lead with a brilliant piece of skill. Set up from 30 yards out, his dipping shot flew past and outstretched Crépeau and into the far corner.

38 ' - GOAL (VAN) - Against the run of play, the Whitecaps tied it at 1-1 as Theo Blair volleyed a stunning shot up and over Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark.


44' - CHANCE (POR) - Portland midfielder Marvín Loria hit a shot on frame that forced a reaction kick save from Crépeau.


55' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers regained the lead in dramatic fashion as Loría, dribbling just outside the edge of the 18-yard box, arrowed a low shot into the far corner of the net to give Portland a 2-1 lead.

73' - CHANCE (POR) - After some sustained Portland pressure in the attacking third, Blanco lofted a ball back across the face of goal that Valeri headed down on frame forcing a diving save from Crépeau.


90' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers sealed the win with a blistering counter forward. Valeri sent a weighted ball forward to Tomás Conechny in the right channel. Conechny then one-timed a diagonal ball on the deck to a streaking Jeremy Ebobisse who took a touch and then slotted home a goal to make the score 3-1 for Portland.
