Timbers select midfielder Aaron Molloy in first round of 2020 MLS SuperDraft

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers today selected midfielder Aaron Molloy with the No. 16 overall pick in the first round of the 2020 MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas. 


A three-year starter for Penn State University (2017-19), Molloy, 22, appeared in 50 matches (49 starts) for the Nittany Lions, recording 14 goals and eight assists during that period. The team captain tallied nine goals and six assists in 19 appearances (19 starts) in 2019, earning the Big Ten Midfielder of the Year award and claiming Second Team All-American honors by the United Soccer Coaches. Additionally, Molloy was also a unanimous 2019 All-Big Ten first-team honoree, a First Team All-North Region member, and helped Penn State qualify to their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2014.
