PRESEASON MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 1, New England Revolution 3

Diego Valeri, Timbers vs. NE, 2.22.20

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers finished their 2020 preseason, presented by Old Trapper Beef Jerky, with a 3-1 defeat to the New England Revolution Saturday evening at Providence Park.

Portland went out to a 1-0 lead in the 29th minute when New England defender Henry Kessler's pass out of the back was picked off by Timbers forward Felipe Mora. He raced in on goal but Revs goalkeeper Matt Turner came off his line to deflect the shot. However, Portland midfielder Diego Chara pounced on the rebound and angled his shot into the lower right corner of the net.

Three minutes before halftime, the Revolution equalized when a cross found Gustavo Bou on the back stick who tucked his shot inside the left post and evened the score at 1-1. Bou scored his second of the night when he converted a penalty kick in first half stoppage time. Adam Buksa made it 3-1 for New England when he slotted home a shot in the 51st minute.

The Portland Timbers open the 2020 MLS regular season on March 1 when they host Minnesota United FC at Providence Park. Kickoff is 4:30pm PT (FS1, TICKETS).
