PTFC: From the Archives #Statman Edition | Seven goals in one match for Thorns

Thorns celebrate, Thorns vs. FCKC, 7.13.14

Midway through their second NWSL season, Portland Thorns FC exploded with seven goals on July 14, 2014 against FC Kansas City at Providence Park. Tune in to FOX 12 Oregon KPTV, ThornsFC.com or Twitch.tv/thornsfc on April 11 at 3pm PT to see a special rebroadcast of this historic match and watch online at ThornsFC.com, presented by Providence Health & Services. Here are five numbers to know ahead of the game.

7 Portland's 7-1 win is still the most goals ever scored by the Thorns in a single match. At the time, it also set a record for the most goals ever by an NWSL team, a feat that has since only been matched once.

6 The six-goal margin of victory is also still tied for the largest victory in NWSL history. The six-goal win is the largest in Thorns history and came just three weeks after the club had set the then-club record with a five-goal win over the Washington Spirit.

5 Both Veró Boquete and Allie Long finished with braces in the match. Five different Thorns players had multi-goal matches in 2014 (Boquete, Long, Alex Morgan, Jessica McDonald, and Christine Sinclair).

3X2 Portland scored 3 goals in the first half before adding four in the second half. The game marked the first time an NWSL team had scored three or more goals in both halves of a match, a mark that wasn't equaled until 2019.

9 The loss ended a nine-game unbeaten streak for FCKC and also ended a seven-game winning streak for the club, which is still tied for longest win streak in league history. The club went on to win the 2014 NWSL Championship.
