In 2016, Portland Thorns FC finished their home campaign with a record of 8-1-1 and a positive goal differential of +15. The final regular season match at Providence Park saw Portland defeat Western New York, 3-1, in front of a sellout crowd on Sept. 11, 2016.

3History Books - The match was the third sellout in the history of the Thorns at Providence Park with 21,144 fans in attendance. It was the first time that Portland won a home sellout. 


49Looking Ahead - Forward Christine Sinclair scored the second goal of the match, finishing a left-footed shot that went in off the post. The leading scorer in international soccer history, Sinclair currently has 49 goals for the Thorns, which is third-most in league history behind Sam Kerr and Lynn Williams.


5Career High - The game-winning goal came courtesy of midfielder Dagny Brynjarsdottir, who scored a career-high five goals for the Thorns in 2016. It was the last goal at Providence Park that Brynjarsdottir scored for the Portland.


3-2Surprise! The Flash scored two late goals to give Portland a one-goal victory. In the 83 home games the Thorns have ever played at Providence Park, the match is the only one to end with a score of 3-2.


5/5On A Streak - Brynjarsdottir's goal was set up by a one-touch pass by midfielder Tobin Heath. The assist was part of five assists-in-five games streak for Heath, who finished the season with the most assists in NWSL history with 10.
