Want to get involved with Stand Together Week 2020? Here's how

Lend a hand! The ninth-annual Stand Together Week returns next week and there are a number of ways to get involved in and around the Portland community.

There are in-person projects you can sign up for – with social distance, masks and health and safety measures in place – and there are also a host of individual support projects and virtual volunteer projects people can participate in.

The week kicks off with a special virtual event with scholar, author, human rights activist and pioneer for racial equality, Dr. Richard Lapchick leading a special lecture and Q&A on Friday, Aug. 21, at 3:30pm PT. Lapchick is internationally recognized as an expert on sports issues, leads a discussion and Q&A on how the power of sport can impact positive social change. To register for the event, click here. Viewing information will be provided the day before the event. To learn more about Dr. Lapchick, click here.

Want to sign up for an in-person project? Check out the list here with park clean-ups, meal prep and more all possible projects.

Know that All in-person volunteer projects will adhere to state and local guidelines to curb the spread of COVID-19. Health and safety measures such as face coverings, hand washing, sanitizing and social distancing will be enforced.

There are also a host of individual support projects with limited contact that involve dropping off clothes, books or other essential items to numerous fantastic organizations:

Finally, Stand Together Week has a list of organizations that you can help even from the comfort of your home via virtual volunteering. Be it assisting with translations for the UN, becoming a mentor, making blankets for youth and more, there are a number of great organizations you can help.

Know, too, that many of these organizations need help year-round so if you’re unable to sign up for an in-person event, you can commit to individual support projects or virtual volunteering to help whenever possible.

So get out there and get volunteering!
