MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 1, Seattle Sounders FC 0

PORTLAND, Ore. – Midfielder Yimmi Chara scored a goal in his third straight game and the Portland Timbers won their second match in a row defeating Seattle Sounders FC 1-0 Wednesday night at Providence Park.

Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark made a season-high six saves and the Portland defense faced 19 shots in earning the team's second clean sheet of the season.

The three earned points catapulted the Timbers into a tie on points with 21 atop the Western Conference with Seattle.

Match Moments

2' - CHANCE (POR) - Diego Valeri sent a corner kick in that found a wide-open Jaroslaw Niezgoda but the forward headed his shot just over the bar.

10' - SAVE (POR) - Timbers goalkeeper Steve Clark came up with a great point-blank save as Sounders forward Raúl Ruidíaz took a shot from near the penalty area only to have Clark smother the shot.

13' - GOAL (POR) - Portland took a 1-0 lead as winger Jeremy Ebobisse won a ball in the Seattle half before carrying forward. He then led a perfectly-weighted ball through to winger Yimmi Chara who rocketed through the central channel, splitting the Sounders defense. Chara one-timed his shot past a diving Stefan Frei to score in his third straight match.

31' - TACKLE (POR) - Seattle pushed forward with a ball that sprung Cristian Roldan into the Timbers 18-yard box. However, Portland midfielder Diego Chara raced in and placed a perfectly-timed tackle to knock the ball out for a corner.

33' - CHANCE (POR) - On a crafty set piece, Valeri played the ball short, received a ball back and then crossed it to the back post for Niezgoda. Niezgoda then set a ball on the deck across the face of goal and just outside the left post.

70' - SAVE (POR) - Seattle's Kelvin Leerdam sent in a rising shot that Clark jumped to push over the bar.

Portland will next play Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Sunday, Sept. 27 in what is technically considered an away match. Kickoff is 7pm PT on ROOT SPORTS.
