MATCH RECAP | LA Galaxy 3, Portland Timbers 6

Jeremy Ebobisse, Timbers @ LA, 10.7.20

CARSON, Calif. – Felipe Mora and Jeremy Ebobisse each earned braces, Diego Valeri and Larrys Mabiala both scored and the Portland Timbers tied an all-era, club-record for goals scored in their 6-3 victory over the LA Galaxy Wednesday night at Dignity Health Sports Park marking Portland's fourth win in a row.

Match Moments

14' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers got on the board first in the 14th minute. Diego Chara weighted a ball forward into the 18-yard box for his brother, Yimmi. Yimmi dribbled to the Galaxy endline before cutting a ball back to forward Felipe Mora, open atop the six-yard box. Mora quickly one-timed his shot into the back of the net for a 1-0 Portland lead.

20' - SAVE (POR) - Steve Clark came off his line to first slow and then deny a point-blank shot from LA's Ethan Zubak.

23' - GOAL (POR) - Portland doubled their lead seven minutes later on a rocket of a free kick from forward Jeremy Ebobisse. Set up just outside the Galaxy 18-yard box, Ebobisse and Diego Valeri both lined up the kick. In a surprise move, Ebobisse stepped forward and hit a left-footed, curling shot around the wall and into the upper 90 of the Galaxy net for a 2-0 Portland lead.

34' - GOAL (LA) - Following a Portland clearance of an LA corner kick, the ball was pushed out to Galaxy defender Julian Araujo who fired a low, hard, 25-yard shot that flew into the lower left corner of the Timbers net to cut the score to 2-1.

41' - SAVE (POR) - In a busy sequence of events in front of the Portland net, an LA chipped shot rolled towards goal that defender Pablo Bonilla knocked forward out of the six-yard box but only to have it deflect off teammate Larrys Mabiala's chest back towards goal. Bonilla showed adept body control to rebalance and then save the deflection off the goal line to preserve the Portland lead.

47' - GOAL (POR) - Yimmi Chara squared a pass along the top of the box for Mora. Mora shed his defender and then pushed a pass up to Valeri inside the box. Valeri spun before delicately lifting his shot up and over Galaxy goalkeeper David Bingham to nestle into the back of the net for a 3-1 Portland lead.

55' - GOAL (LA) - LA scored when Cristian Pavón crossed a ball from the left side that forward Ethan Zubak headed into the bottom corner of the net to make the score 3-2.

60' - GOAL (POR) - Portland regained their two-goal lead as they quickly worked the ball around the edge of the area. Yimmi Chara made nice move to get through the defensive backline before springing Jorge Villafaña on the overlap with a pass. Villafaña then hit a low cross to the back post that Mora raced in to hammer into the back of the net for a 4-2 lead and earn his second goal of the game.

63' - GOAL (POR) - Three minutes later, Valeri sent in a free kick from the right channel that defender Dario Zuparic headed down on frame where Bingham made a save. However, Mabiala jumped to head down the rebound and into the net to make the score 5-2 for the visitors.

71' - GOAL (LA) - Pavón scored a third goal for LA when he hit a low shot that Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark got a hand to but it knocked into the back of the net.

80' - GOAL (POR) - Ebobisse earned a brace of his own and the Timbers tied a team record for most goals scored in a game when they made it 6-3 in the 80th minute. Ebobisse chipped a ball forward to Villafaña in the center of the box. Villafaña, with some great hold-up play, headed it down for Eryk Williamson. Williamson then passed to Ebobisse who rounded the goalkeeper and scored.
