MATCH RECAP | Portland Timbers 2, Sporting Kansas City 1

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Timbers barreled back from a one-goal deficit with two, late second-half goals from Jeremy Ebobisse and Brian Fernandez to earn a 2-1 victory over Sporting Kansas City Saturday night at Providence Park.

Match Moments

7' - CHANCE (POR) - Coming down the left side, Timbers midfielder Eryk Williamson freed himself from four defenders with an outlet pass to Diego Valeri. Valeri slid a cross-field pass to defender Jorge Moreira on the right wing who then cut in and hit a left-footed shot that SKC goalkeeper Tim Melia dove to his left to parry away.

9' - VAR (POR) - Two minutes later, Valeri hit a hard shot from the right side that deflected off KC defender Luis Martins' right arm. Referee Alex Chilowicz initially pointed to the penalty spot but following video assisted replay, the penalty was waved off.

49' - SAVE (POR) - SKC's Martins, with some space outside the box, hit a low dipping shot that Portland goalkeeper Steve Clark sprang to his right to parry away.

61' - CHANCE (SKC) - On a long cross into the box, Portland's Clark came off his line to try to catch the ball but could only get a hand to it. It fell to Sporting's Dániel Sallói but he hit his shot over the bar.

65' - GOAL (SKC) - Outside the Timbers 18-yard box and to the right, Sporting's Benny Feilhaber chipped a high, spinning shot that nestled into the upper far corner of Portland's net to give KC a 1-0 lead.

72' - CHANCE (POR) - On a Portland corner kick, Valeri's ball found Claude Dielna sprinting to the near post but his header flashed off of the opposite post. Moreira collected the ball and looped it to Bill Tuiloma who snapped a header down but right at KC's Melia.

83' - GOAL (POR) - The Timbers tied it up on a great counter attack. Marvin Loría weighted a perfect ball forward to Diego Chara who rocketed down the right channel. He put his head up and cut the ball back to Jeremy Ebobisse on the back left post who tapped it in and made the score 1-1.

90+4' - GOAL (POR) - Portland clinched the win late in stoppage time. Tomás Conechny nutmegged an SKC defender on the edge of the area with a ball forward for Valeri. Valeri dribbled to the endline, skittered past his defender and lofted a perfect ball to the back post for Brian Fernandez to head into the back of the net for a 2-1 lead.
