Shannon Murray | Timbers2 Head Coach

Murray, who holds a USSF “A” license, is entering his eighth season with the club. The 2023 season is his second as Timbers2 head coach after spending four years with the Timbers’ first team coaching staff. Murray joined the first team staff in 2018 as a video/data analyst before transitioning into an assistant coach role during his four years with the group. Murray began his career in Portland after joining the club in March of 2016 as an assistant coach for T2. 

Before his time in Portland, Murray spent two seasons as an academy coach with Seattle Sounders FC. Additionally, Murray has been a member of U.S. Soccer’s National Coaching Education staff since 2011. A graduate of the University of Washington, Murray previously served as the technical director for Evergreen Soccer Club and the director of coaching education for Washington Youth Soccer. Prior to beginning his career in coaching and education, Murray played six professional seasons in the A-League and Continental Indoor Soccer League. Most recently, Murray was chosen a member of 25 MLS coaches to form part of the Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL) program in partnership with the French Football Federation (FFF).
